Back in 2021, I started taking a few minutes to do a yearly recap of my reading life.

I got such a kick out of it that I created a handful “Year in Books” templates to make the process easier and fun for me and my kids.

Yearly Reading Stats Template

Where are my numbers people? This yearly reading stats template helps you keep track of the numbers.

Number of books read per month and total

Number of books by format (ex: print, audiobook, ebook)

Number of books by star rating.

Number of books by genre.

It can be very motivating to see those numbers add up over the course of the year.

My Year in Books Template

The year-in-books template will help you create a snapshot of your reading year. Here is where you chronicle your highs and lows, the bests and worsts.

This year-in-reading overview will come in handy when someone asks you for a book recommendation. You can easily see which books you loved, cried over, or considered overhyped.

If you belong to a book club, then consider dedicating your last meeting of the year (or maybe the first meeting of the new year) to discussing your year in books.

My ‘Best-Of’ Book Awards Template

Think of this as your personal Literary Oscars.

You can fill out a new Book Awards template every year to keep track of your “best books of all time.” It will be interesting to see if any new reads unseat beloved favorites from the past—oh, the drama!

Or, you can take your cue from the real Oscars, and dole out Book Awards to just the titles you read for that particular year.

Book club idea: Host a Book Oscars party at someone’s house. As a group, vote on your club’s best reads from that year, and present the winners over fine food and fancy dress.
